About Miles

Interests: technology, start-ups, having a positive impact and reading.  And helping people meet their goals.

I’m an entrepreneur and angel investor.  I was Co-founder & COO of OneUni, a higher education technology startup.  I’m the host of the (stalled) Startups 4 Good podcast and I taught Yale School of Management.  I’m also founder, and former Chairman of Higher One (NYSE:ONE).  I received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year regional award and was a national finalist, too.  Some of my other activities include being Founder/Board Member SeeClickFix, Founder and former Chair of the Yale Humanist Community, and on the Board of Venture for America, I served on the Board Yale-New Haven Hospital and on the (advisory) Board of the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute.   I tried my hand at public art with Inside Out #NHV.  I was also founding Board member of MakeHaven, New Haven’s makerspace.  When I run across a great start-up that I think I can help, I’ll invest with fellow angels through Top Floor.

In the past, I’ve run a painting franchise, done system administration, pulled cable and been an “inventor” (seriously Walker Digital had such titles).  I helped create Cluefest, New Haven’s annual citywide scavenger hunt.

On occasion, I have been known to dance more than is appropriate.

  • Hi Mr. Lasater,

I know it is a bit unconventional to ask this via your blog, but the FOCUS on New Haven orientation program at Yale is holding a panel on economic development and would like to invite you to come as a panelist. If you are available and willing, please e-mail us at focusonnewhaven@gmail.com.

Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you.
